My name is Clarissa. I’m a born and raised Londoner. I love food. I love nature.
Since moving to my forever home on Shooters Hill I’ve been learning to grow my own food in my garden.
While I enjoy growing and eating food, I haven’t always felt confident in the kitchen when it comes to using the ingredients I have to hand. I would stock the cupboards and fridge with ingredients only for them to expire. I would often order takeaway or eat out at least two or three times a week - at my worst I’d order in twice a day!
I knew things needed to change. I wanted to find ways to cook meals with in-season ingredients. I wanted to find ways to reduce food waste. I wanted to find ways to prepare delicious meals in the little free time I had.
Fast forward to May this year, I welcomed my first child and I was determined to cook more homemade meals, use more responsibly sourced ingredients, and inspire him to love food as much as I do.
Homemade on the Hill is my passion project in which I make and share homemade recipes, try out local produce, and learn about sustainable farming practices that I can support.
My hope is that through this project I’ll get to meet more people in the area, learn from and inspire others, and showcase places across the UK, and maybe beyond, that are using interesting approaches to growing and making good food.
The whole point of this project is that it’s a living document of my curiosity and learning - I’m a complete novice and I don’t want to do this alone.
So if you’re in the same boat - or if you have some things to teach me- please, come join me!
